| Lewis & Clark & Sacagawea - Trailblazers |

|
CURIOSITY led the team of Lewis and Clark on a long and difficult trip in this nation's early history. Leading other explorers and helped by a young Shoshoni girl named Sacagawea, they traveled from the Midwest to the Pacific Ocean in Oregon. Every day of that adventure they learned new information about plants, animals, and the native peoples who lived there. They wrote many notes in their journals, so now our CURIOSITY about that fantastic journey can be satisfied.
Quotes:
"Clarke saw Sacajawea, who was with her husband 100 yards ahead, began to dance and show every mark of the most extravagant joy, turning round him and pointing to several Indians, whom he now saw advancing on horseback, sucking her fingers at the same time to indicate that they were of her native tribe . . . Clark and Lewis soon after met with the chief. . . After this the conference was to be opened, and glad of an opportunity of being able to converse more intelligibly, Sacajawea was sent for; she came into the tent, sat down, and was beginning to interpret, when in the person of Cameahwait she recognised her brother: She instantly jumped up, and ran and embraced him, throwing over him her blanket and weeping profusely: The chief was himself moved, though not in the same degree. After some conversation between them she resumed her seat, and attempted to interpret for us, but her new situation seemed to overpower her, and she was frequently interrupted by her tears."

| Fun Facts |
 |
- Thomas Jefferson’s intellectual curiosity drew him into an accelerating, three-hundred-year-old quest to find a water route to Asia, and he personally planned the successful expedition led by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark from 1804 to 1806.
- Returning from the Expedition, both Lewis and Clark served as governors. Lewis as governor of Louisiana Territory and Clark as governor of Missouri Territory.
- The picture on the dollar coin is not really a picture of Sacagawea, for the simple reason that no known likeness exists of her.
