50 American Heroes Every Kid Should Meet

Heroes book - 50 American Heroes Every Kid Should Meet - stories about American Heroes
More information

Abraham Lincoln - The Great Emancipator

Even when he was alive, people called him "Honest Abe." Our beloved 16th president, who freed the slaves and who kept the country together, believed in HONESTY. As he faced challenges in his personal life and in his public duties, Abe told the truth. That's why the voters of his time believed in him. That's why Americans today still respect him.

Quotes:

"I believe it is an established maxim in morals that he who makes an assertion without knowing whether it is true or false, is guilty of falsehood; and the accidental truth of the assertion, does not justify or excuse him."

"...resolve to be honest at all events."

"Peace does not appear so distant as it did. I hope it will come soon, and come to stay; and so come as to be worth the keeping in all future time."

"Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up, and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. This is a most valuable - a most sacred right - a right, which we hope and believe, is to liberate the world. "
